About CNMO
What is CNMO?
CNMO stands for the Council of Nigerian Muslim Organisations. We are the national Islamic umbrella body representing Nigerian Muslim organisations across the United Kingdom. Founded to unite the Nigerian Muslim ummah, CNMO works to promote Islamic values, coordinate community activities, and serve as a collective voice for its member organisations.
Where is CNMO based?
CNMO is based in London. Our registered address is 365 Old Kent Rd, London SE1 5JH, United Kingdom. However, our activities and member organisations span the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, from London and Birmingham to Manchester and Coventry.
What is CNMO's mission?
Our mission is rooted in three core pillars: Unity - bringing together Nigerian Muslim organisations under one roof; Education - promoting Islamic knowledge through lectures, e-bulletins, and conferences; and Service - advocating for the welfare and needs of the Nigerian Muslim community in the UK. All our activities are guided by the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
How many organisations are affiliated with CNMO?
CNMO currently has 19 affiliated member organisations across the UK. These range from local Islamic societies and mosques to national welfare trusts and prayer groups. You can view the full list on our Affiliates page.
Membership
Who can become a member of CNMO?
CNMO membership is open to Nigerian Muslim organisations registered or operating within the United Kingdom. If you represent an Islamic society, mosque, welfare group, or similar organisation with Nigerian Muslim members, you are eligible to apply. Individual membership is not currently available, though individuals can register as a Friend of CNMO.
What is the difference between a Member and a Friend of CNMO?
Members are organisations that formally affiliate with CNMO. They gain voting rights, representation at executive level, and full access to CNMO's resources and activities. Friends are individual supporters who wish to stay connected with CNMO, receive our updates, and support our mission. Friends do not carry voting rights but are valued members of our community.
How do I apply for membership?
You can apply online through our Become a Member page. Fill in the membership application form with your organisation's details and the reasons for joining. Our team will review your application and respond within a reasonable timeframe. You may also email us at info@cnmo.uk for further guidance.
Is there a membership fee?
Membership fee details are shared during the application process. CNMO operates as a non-profit umbrella body, and any fees collected are used solely to support the administration and activities of the council. Please contact us at info@cnmo.uk for the current membership fee structure.
Events & Activities
What kind of events does CNMO organise?
CNMO organises a wide range of events including Islamic lectures and seminars, community conferences (such as the London Conference on Islam and World), Eid celebrations, Jumu'ah reminders, welfare and charity drives, and youth programmes. Events are hosted across the UK in member organisations' mosques and community centres.
How can I find out about upcoming CNMO events?
You can visit our Events page for a list of upcoming events, or subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of the homepage to receive updates directly in your inbox. We also share announcements on our Facebook page and Twitter/X.
Can non-Nigerians attend CNMO events?
Absolutely. While CNMO was established to serve the Nigerian Muslim community in the UK, our events and activities are open to all Muslims and members of the wider community. Islam teaches that the ummah transcends national and ethnic boundaries, and we welcome anyone who wishes to learn, participate, and connect with us.
Islamic Guidance
Does CNMO provide Islamic scholarly guidance or fatawa?
CNMO is an umbrella body and community organisation, not a scholarly institution. We do not issue formal fatawa (religious rulings). However, we work closely with scholars and our member organisations to provide Islamic educational content through our e-bulletins, events, and Jumu'ah resources. For personal religious rulings, we recommend consulting a qualified Islamic scholar.
How are CNMO's prayer times calculated?
The prayer times displayed on our website are fetched live from the Aladhan API, using the Muslim World League (MWL) calculation method for London, United Kingdom. This method is widely accepted for prayer time calculations in the UK. Times are for London and may vary slightly if you are in another city. You can view today's full schedule on our Prayer Times page.
What Islamic calendar does CNMO follow?
CNMO follows the Hijri (Islamic lunar) calendar. Our Islamic Calendar page provides a live date converter between Gregorian and Hijri dates, a listing of key Islamic dates for the current year, and information about the current month. Significant dates such as Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha are highlighted for the community.
